As you know I coached lawyers for 12 years. Over those years, I enjoyed discovering what makes the best the best, what separates superstars from stars, what it takes to go from a law firm associate to a superstar rainmaker.

Much has been written about habits. I’ve written about it. Take a look at Client Development: Create Habits or Habits: Ideas to Help You Succeed

I recently read: 13 habits of self-made millionaires, from a man who spent 5 years studying rich people. Even though the article is about self-made millionaires, many rainmakers share these same habits. Do you? Here they are:

  1. They read consistently. I love this one. I have always read business books. If I have coached you take a look at the three kinds of books self-made millionaires read. Aren’t those the same kinds of books I have recommended you read?
  2. They exercise. Being a top rainmaker takes a great deal of energy. You can’t have it if you don’t exercise.
  3. They hang out with other successful people. Looking back now, I realize that as your life goes on, you become more and more like the people with whom you hang out.
  4. They pursue their own goals. I loved setting goals and striving to achieve them. You may know many years ago, I set lifetime goals.

I won’t share the other 9 habits, but I urge you to read the article and see if some of those habits are yours.
