planner_and_pda.jpgI want you to use your imagination for a moment. You have a coaching session with me this week. It is our first session. You likely know that even before the session I have asked if you have a business plan and goals.

It is the beginning of the second quarter of the year, so a perfect time to work on your plan. I always had a plan and you should have one also. In fact it is more important for you to have a plan because you have more choices and less time than I had back then in the old days.

When it first came out, I read Stephen Covey’s best seller: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and I planned my professional and personal life each week in even more detail. Stephen Covey’s Habit 3 is Put First Things First. In discussing that habit he suggest asking yourself two key questions.

Let’s get back to our coaching session: I might ask Stephen Covey’s two questions:

  1. What one thing could you do (you aren’t doing now) that if you did on a regular basis would make a tremendous positive difference in your personal life?
  2. What one thing in your professional life would bring similar results?

I know from experience that thinking about and then answering the two questions can make a big difference in your life. Even if you are skeptical, give it a try and if you want to take it a step further, share your answers with me.
