Have you read the articles? Apple’s dominance leaves trail of winners, losers.

Close to oblivion in 1997, Apple is now the world’s second-most valuable company, after Exxon Mobil Corp.

Microsoft is one of the losers. What is the difference between Apple and Microsoft and what does it say to lawyers and law firms? I believe I found an answer in Carmine Gallo’s book The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs: Insanely Different Principles for Breakthrough Success. I am still reading the book on my iPad and I recommend you read it also.

The big difference is that everyone at Apple is on the same page, driven by Steve Jobs. That means that every group and every project is in lockstep with Jobs’s vision. Microsoft businesses are silos, and all of them are profit centers in their own right. In many cases, the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.

I believe law firms with lawyers on the same page will out perform law firms with silos. My old law firm was more like Microsoft with silos throughout the firm. Is your firm more like Apple?
